WEXFORD COUNTY, Mich. — A 5-year-old was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital after a utility vehicle overturned and crashed northwest of Cadillac last week.
The Wexford County Sheriff's Office said just after 10 p.m. on Friday, June 7, someone called 911 to report an ORV that rolled over in Springville Township.
Deputies said it happened at the intersection of N 5 Road and W 24 Road.
Authorities believe an adult and three children were in a John Deere gator. A juvenile was driving it when the vehicle crashed on a curve.
That caused a 5-year-old passenger to be thrown from the ORV, and the child had life-threatening injuries.
The 36-year-old adult passenger was also hurt. Both the injured child and the adult were taken to a hospital in Traverse City.
From there, medics airlifted the 5-year-old to a Grand Rapids area hospital for treatment.
Deputies said they believed speed was a factor in the crash.
