Wintry mix means big business, slower delivery for food industry

Super Bowl Sunday and wintry mix create higher sales, longer delivery times for food industry.

WEST MICHIGAN (WZZM) – Super Bowl Sunday isn't just about football, for the food industry it's about deals, steals and big sales.

The winter storm that continues to linger over West Michigan will also add to higher sales, restaurant officials said.

"We're probably going to be about double where we were last year for the lunch hour, " said Ryan Ashley of Jet's Pizza. "And those sales are just going to keep climbing through the night as everybody gets ready for the Super Bowl and the storm keeps coming."

Leading up to kickoff, several restaurant managers told WZZM 13 News that delivery orders are already surpassing their numbers from last year.

"People don't want to go out," Ashley said. "They don't want to go out to eat and so we end up delivering more pizzas."

But the weather does cause problems for deliveries, slowing down their usual service substantially. Jet's Pizza tends to deliver orders within 45 minutes of the initial call, but due to poor road conditions today, deliveries can take up to an hour and a half.

For those who choose to dine out, some businesses said they are seeing larger orders and longer stays from guest.

"If they're going to go out, they're definitely going to order more food to enjoy the whole day long," said Dan Bauman, manager of Uccello's Ristorante in Standale. "But we're definitely going to have much more takeout today."
