Rollover crash on US 31 leaves 2 men trapped under car. Witnesses help by flipping car back upright

​A 54-year-old man from West Olive was driving South Bound on US 31 when he took a Michigan U-turn. As he accelerated North Bound he lost control of the convertible.

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — North Bound US 31 was closed for approximately one hour after a crash Monday evening around 7:20 p.m. according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred near Croswell Street. There was just one car involved. However, the two occupants were both injured.

A 54-year-old man from West Olive was driving South Bound on US 31 when he took a Michigan U-turn. As he accelerated North Bound he lost control of the convertible Chevrolet Camaro, sending it into the ditch where it rolled onto its roof.

The driver and 37-year-old male passenger were both left trapped in the car. Witnesses rushed to the crash and were able to roll the vehicle back over onto its wheels, freeing the two men.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and had "serious injuries" according to officials. The passenger was wearing a seatbelt and was left with "non life-threatening injuries." Both men were brought to nearby hospitals.
