REED CITY, Mich. —
New court documents obtained by 13 ON YOUR SIDE reveal Savannah Marie Miller, the woman accused of beating Reed City baby Renzi McCall to death, was intoxicated while watching the child in late July.
Officials said Miller, who was four months sober at the time, Door Dashed 10 Fireball shooters and drank at least eight of them the night she was watching Renzi.
Miller told officials that the entire night “was very blurry.”
She recalled to police that she drank one or two shooters and either drove or walked around the block pushing the baby in a carriage. She then returned to her and Renzi’s mother Amber McCall’s shared apartment, where she was the sole caretaker while Amber was at work.
While under her care, Miller said Renzi fell off a bed, which Miller claimed she also did a day before. But this bed was “much higher.”
Miller also told police she was walking with the baby and hit the baby’s head on a sharp edge in the hallway, this time “sustain[ing] a 14 large lump on her upper right -- or above her eye somewhere, 15 and it was protruding approximately 1 inch out.”
While Miller made eggs, she was “85 percent sure” she placed Renzi on the counter, where she then fell hitting her face and stomach.
After the fall, Miller said she was going to call emergency services and get medical aid for Renzi, but “she knew she was intoxicated and probably would get in trouble and after a few moments she decided that the baby would be fine,” according to authorities.
Amber tried calling Miller while at work, but Miller did not answer any of her calls or texts.
A coworker drove Amber home from work, Miller did not answer the door and did not respond to the coworker knocking on the window.
Amber and the coworker saw Miller “passed out” on her bed but could not see Renzi through her Pack ‘N Play walls. Miller opened the door once Amber began screaming and banging on the windows.
When Amber and her coworker made it to the Pack ‘N Play, officials said they found Renzi on her back, face up, with bruises “all over her body.” Renzi was unresponsive and had labored breathing.
A coworker told police that she saw Renzi earlier that day before going to work with Amber. She said the baby was “happy, friendly, laughing, smiling." There were “no visible injuries visible at that time.”
Miller told officials she “fully admits that she was home alone with the baby; she is the one that chose to drink alcohol; and that obviously she is the culpable party; she is the one responsible for the injuries to the baby. She advised me that they’re not intentional, but she was intoxicated.”

Miller was charged Thursday with two counts of child abuse and two counts of murder. She will be back in court on Aug. 1.
