ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — A woman is dead following a crash Thursday morning in Mendon Township, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office.

Around 8 a.m. deputies responded to a crash scene on Silver Street, north of Pinhook Road.

The crash, involving two vehicles, occurred when a 24-year-old man from Reading, Michigan was driving north on Silver Street. The 24-year-old struck another vehicle head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle, now identified as 45-year-old Melissa Hallack of Mendon, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old was brought to a nearby hospital.

The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate, but said they believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

They are withholding the 24-year-old's name pending results of the investigation.
