Woman dead after going airborne and hitting oncoming traffic in car

The car left the road, rolled several times, ejecting the woman from the car. The car then went airborne and hit two vehicles heading north on US-31.

MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A woman is dead and another driver is injured after a serious crash in Muskegon Township, the police department says.

It happened around 7 a.m. Monday morning. Police were called to the area of US-31 and Skyline Drive.

There, investigators learned a 35-year-old woman was heading eastbound on Skyline and lost control of her car as she entered a curve that merges onto northbound US-31.

The car left the road, rolled several times, ejecting the woman from the car. The car then went airborne and hit two vehicles heading north on US-31.

The woman was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A driver from a vehicle heading north was also injured, but has been treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say speed was a factor in the crash. It remains under investigation.

None of the drivers involved have been named as family is notified. The road was closed for hours for cleanup, but has since reopened.
