VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A woman is facing charges after allegedly leading Van Buren County deputies on a chase with her daughter in the car.
Deputies say a be-on-the-lookout alert was issued just after midnight on Tuesday when a silver SUV with no taillights was spotted driving "erratically" through Paw Paw. An officer found the SUV and attempted to pull it over, but the driver sped off and out of Paw Paw.
Van Buren County deputies pursued the SUV for several miles before stop sticks were deployed. The SUV's front tires were deflated from the stop sticks. The driver continued for a short distance, but later pulled over and got out of the vehicle.
The driver, a 29-year-old Missouri woman, attempted to run, but lost her balance and fell. She was taken into custody shortly after.
Deputies say the woman's 4-year-old daughter was inside the SUV during the pursuit. She was uninjured and "in good spirits," according to deputies. A relative took the child into their care.
The woman was taken to a hospital to have her blood alcohol content tested. Deputies say while at the hospital, she attempted to kick an officer.
She is now facing a slew of charges, including operating while intoxicated, child endangerment, assault on a police officer, resisting and obstructing, flee and elude and open intoxication.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office at 269-657-3101, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-7867, Silent Observer at 269-343-2100 or your local police department.
