OGEMAW COUNTY, Mich. — An 81-year-old woman was rescued Tuesday after being lost in the woods for over 20 hours in Ogemaw County.
Michigan State troopers had responded to a home in Richland Township after a family member reported the woman missing. The family member said she was last seen around 10 p.m. Monday. They said she used a walking cane.
After troopers began investigating, they found a vehicle in the garage with the woman's coat, purse and cell phone inside it.
Trooper Adam Whited and his K9 partner Loki were called to the scene to help search. Loki quickly found a pair of gloves and a cane in the woods behind the home.
Loki then led troopers down into a steep ravine, where the woman was found at the bottom. Police say she was unable to move.
Troopers carried the woman out of the ravine in the middle of a storm with the help of other law enforcement officers.
The woman later told troopers that she had been lost in the woods for over 20 hours.
