GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A wintertime classic is coming back to Grand Rapids next month!
Organizers, artists, and businesses are getting ready for the World of Winter!
People will get to experience over 100 art installations, events, ice sculptures and window displays all in the heart of Grand Rapids.
“People can just expect some real stunning beautiful art, some great events,” said Downtown Grand Rapids Inc Communications Director Bill Kirk.
The World of Winter is returning in January, with over a hundred art pieces, displays and events for people to enjoy.
“So, for January and February, we want to give people a reason to come downtown and not only check out the festival, but check out everything else downtown has to offer,” said Kirk.
Bill Kirk says it not only gives people the chance to have fun, but to also explore different parts of the city.
“There are so many unique parts of downtown, whether you're in heart side, or Monroe north or on the west side. So, we want to connect all those with just a visual, vibrant outdoor experience to get people out and about in the winter months,” says Kirk.
He says it also helps the local economy during what could be a slower part of the year.
“The business side of it is really about activating downtown during those colder winter months, when historically there hasn't been a lot going on,” said Kirk.
Many of the art installations and displays will be designed by local artists.
The festival kicks off on Jan. 12, 2024 with an event called Luminary Light Night Parade Ah-Nab-Awen Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
