WYOMING, Mich — The Walmart Supercenter in Wyoming is back open on New Year's Day after the business had to close early due to a shooting inside Sunday.
Authorities said around 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve, two suspects wearing masks got into an altercation with a male victim near the checkout lines at the front of the Walmart on 54th Street.
That victim was shot and showed up to a hospital later for treatment. He is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.
The second victim, a woman who authorities said was not a target, was also struck. She is also getting treatment and is expected to survive.
At the time of the shooting, the store was full and was evacuated. The store closed for the night, but reopened Monday morning.
The two suspects have not been found yet. Police said one of the suspects was wearing a black parka-style winter coat with fur around the collar, a red sweatshirt and dark pants. The second suspect was wearing light-colored pants and a black sweatshirt.
Police said both suspects were wearing masks, so pictures aren't available at this time.
"It is scary. It's frightening," said Lieutenant Andrew Koeller of the Wyoming Police Department. "But, I want the public to know that all of our resources are in, working on this."
The police encouraged anyone who has any information on the shooting to come forward.
"Anyone who has even the smallest bit of information could help us solve this," Koeller said.
