WYOMING, Mich. — Wyoming Police have increased their patrols at a city park due in part to an increase in lewd conduct.
An officer saw a Republican candidate running for Kent County's 20th District commit gross indecency with another person at the park on June 19, 13 ON YOUR SIDE reported last week.
David Boelkes was arraigned on a gross indecency charge this week.
In those court documents, the Wyoming Police officer said he was in the area due to "the excessive amount" of public sex acts reportedly happening in the park.
13 ON YOUR SIDE filed a public records request and obtained multiple police reports to learn more about it.
There have been at least three cases in June where Wyoming Police have caught people in the act, documents show.
In one instance on June 24, a patrolling officer noted there is a church and a daycare near the wooded parking area, and there were children riding bikes.
About 100 feet into the woods, he saw two people engaging in a public sex act.
The officer arrested one of them, while the other ran off.
On that same day hours later, a different patrolling officer spotted two more people allegedly committing gross indecency. Those two stuck around and were arrested.
"It has become apparent this inappropriate behavior is ongoing and the park has become a place where men are meeting up just for REDACTED," a Wyoming Police Department officer wrote in a follow-up report.
Buck Creek Nature Preserve has a walking trail, picnic area, restrooms and a parking lot. It is adjacent to Kent County's Palmer Park.
During the summer months, Wyoming Police Department officers regularly patrol parks, especially ones with wooded areas, Lt. Andrew Koeller said.
