'Your support means more than words can express' | Family of woman killed saving toddler at state park starts fundraiser

In her last act in life, a 33-year-old mother pushed her toddler out of the way of an out-of-control vehicle at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes.

PIERSON, Mich. — Loved ones of a West Michigan mother who saved her toddler from an out-of-control Jeep at a state park Memorial Day weekend are asking for support.

Kadie Price, 33, of Pierson, was a mother and the wife to a Kent County Sheriff's Deputy.

A fundraiser on GiveSendGo is designed to help her children navigate life without her.

“As many of you know, the Price family experienced an unthinkable loss with the unexpected passing of Kadie. During this difficult time, we want our community to unite and show unwavering support to the family. Your donation will celebrate Kadie's life and last act of heroism and support the children in navigating life without her. Thank you for honoring Kadie's memory with your generous contribution. Your support means more than words can express," the fundraising site said.

The crowdfunding website, self-identified as a Christian organization, said it does not charge people for using the platform.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the site raised more than $32,000.

The Price family was at the drag strip area of the Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes in the Vehicle Scramble area early Sunday afternoon.

Kadie Price and her family were outside of their vehicle watching the action when a Jeep was racing northbound on the drag strip.

When the 64-year-old driver, who has not been identified, accelerated quickly, he lost control.

As the Jeep lost control, it veered off the drag strip toward the Price family.

The Oceana County Sheriff's Office said the Jeep struck the Price's vehicle which then hit her.

Just before she was struck, authorities said she pushed her 2-year-old daughter out of harm's way.

Kadie died from her injuries.

The investigation into the crash remains open and under investigation, authorities said over the weekend.
