ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — An Allegan County woman is bolstering her savings account after taking home $500,000 from the Michigan Lottery.
The 64-year-old woman, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning Ghostbusters instant game ticket at the Marathon gas station on Allegan Street in Plainwell. She said she has played the Ghostbusters game since it was first launched in September 2023.
“When I went into the gas station to buy a ticket on my way to work, the clerk and I were talking about retirement," the player said. "When she handed me the ticket, she said: ‘Well, I hope this ticket helps with saving for retirement!’"
But when she scratched the ticket, she wasn't expecting to win the top prize.
“I scratched the ticket on break later that day and I thought I won $500. My coworker said: ‘You might want to look at that prize amount again.’ When I saw it was actually $500,000, I felt like I was going to have a heart attack!”
The player recently visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to collect her winnings. She said she plans to pay off her home and bills, and save the remainder.
Each Ghostbusters instant game ticket costs $5, and players can win prizes ranging from $5 to $500,000.
