OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. — An Oakland County man is ready to start his journey as an entrepreneur after winning $6 million from a $300,000,000 Extraordinaire instant lottery game.
The 36-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his ticket at the BP gas station in Farmington Hills. He said he plays scratch-off tickets "here and there," and couldn't believe that he had won.
“When I bought this ticket, I scratched the barcode and scanned it before leaving the store. I got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office, so I finished scratching it off when I got home," the player said. “When I saw it was a $6 million winning ticket, I kept saying: ‘I’m going to fall over!’ Winning this amount of money is such a blessing.”
The player recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He chose to receive his winnings in a lump sum payment of about $4.1 million. He said he plans to buy a house and start his own business.
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli said this win is special for a different reason, too.
“Winning $6 million would be a dream come true for any Lottery player,” said Shkreli. “This lucky player is the first top-prize winner on our newest $50 instant game – $300,000,000 Extraordinaire – and the big win is going to help him fulfill his dream of starting a business.”
$300,000,000 Extraordinaire was launched in August. Each ticket costs $50, and players can win prizes ranging from $50 to the $6 million top prize.
