OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A lottery club in Ottawa County is still in shock after winning a $6 million top prize from the Michigan Lottery.
The three-person club plays scratch-off games regularly. The players bought their winning 500X Money Maker instant game ticket at the Down The Hatch Party Store in Holland.
“I scratched off the ticket late one night, and when I saw the prize amount of $6 million, I had to look the ticket over several times to make sure I was seeing it right," said the club's representative. "I woke up my wife and said: ‘I think I just won a really big prize; you have to come look at this!’ Once my wife looked it over and confirmed what I was seeing, I knew we had really won! The next day I met with the other club members and told them the big news. It all still feels surreal!”
The lottery club recently claimed their winnings as a lump sum payment, which comes out to around $4.1 million. With their prize, they plan to pay off mortgages and save the rest.
The members are still coming to terms with their big win.
“It’s still hard to believe that we really won,” said a club member. “I don’t think it’s going to hit us until we see the new balance in our bank accounts!”
500X Money Maker launched in September 2023. Each ticket costs $50 and gives players a chance to win prizes ranging from $75 to $6 million.
