ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Mich. — A St. Joseph County man will be shopping for a new home soon after winning a $500,000 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The 77-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought his winning Winter Ice instant ticket at Jit Food and Gas in Constantine, which is 35 miles south of Kalamazoo.

He bought two lottery tickets for himself and his son, and his ticket won $10. The player went back inside the store to buy two more tickets with his winnings.

“My son likes the Wild Time game, so I got him one of those and I got myself a new $500,000 Winter Ice ticket after the clerk said people had been doing pretty well on it," the player said. "When we scratched the tickets off, I said to my son: ‘What would you say if I told you I’d won $500,000?’ He replied: ‘That you’re full of it!’ That’s when I handed him the ticket and we both started screaming!”

The player recently visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to receive his winnings. He plans to buy a new home with his prize money.

Winter Ice was launched in December. Each ticket costs $5, and players can win prizes anywhere from $5 to $500,000. For more information on the Michigan Lottery, click here.
