The city of Muskegon has adopted new rules addressing the passing of bicycles by motor vehicles.
City officials have worked to make Muskegon more bike-able, in recent years.
The new ordinance, passed by commissioners on Tuesday, Dec. 12, states in short, the city will now require drivers passing bicyclists to give riders no less than five feet of space. Drivers should move back into the traffic lane fully only after the vehicle is safely clear of the overtaken person operating a bicycle.
Drivers who violate the ordinance may be issued a municipal civil infraction.
