WASHINGTON — Looking to score a sundae on Sunday? National Ice Cream Day 2024 is this weekend, meaning there's plenty of offers and deals for a sweet treat.
The national holiday takes place every third Sunday in July, which is also known as National Ice Cream Month. It's all thanks to President Ronald Reagan who signed a proclamation 40 years ago, partly due to his love of the frozen delight, designating the national month and holiday.
"Ice cream is a nutritious and wholesome food, enjoyed by over ninety percent of the people in the United States," Reagan said in his proclamation in 1984.
America's love for ice cream has stayed true for more than four decades as 97% of people in the U.S. "love" or "like" ice cream, according to the International Dairy Foods Association.
As for the top flavors, vanilla takes the crown among Americans. Chocolate, strawberry, butter pecan and cookie dough round out the top 5, according to the association.

On Sunday, Dippin' Dots will be giving a free mini cup of Dippin' Dots during a two hour window at participating locations. Make sure to check with your local store to see when the giveaway will begin.
Customers can also enjoy 25% off online orders with the promo code nicd2024 at checkout. This offer is only available on July 21.
Baskin-Robbins
National Ice Cream Day may be on Sunday but Baskin-Robbins is celebrating all week long.
Starting July 21, ice cream fans can enjoy $5 off any order of $20 when they order online using the code SEIZETHEYAY. The offer ends on July 27.
Customers can also redeem the deal by scanning their Baskin-Robbins app coupon in stores.
Friendly's
Starting July 18 through July 21, Friendly's is offering 89 cent ice cream cones.
