MUSKEGON, Mich. - Muskegon Police identified the 22-year-old man who died as the result of a shooting at Balcom's Cove condos as Anthony Federighe.
The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25. According to a press release police found Federighe inside of a common area of the building with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Federighe was transported by ambulance to Hackley Hospital where he later died.
The condo development on Muskegon Lake is located in the 2900 block of Lakeshore Drive.
The alleged shooter, Paul Gabriel, 59, was taken into custody by police Tuesday night.
Thursday afternoon Gabriel was charged with open murder. The charge includes first and second-degree murder and manslaughter.
Muskegon County District Judge Geoffrey Nolan set bond at $1 million.
Matt Roberts, chief trial attorney for the Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office told Nolan the fatal shooting stems in part from what appears to be "an obsession Mr. Gabriel had with Mr. Federighe's father."
Roberts said the two men live "essentially one floor apart from each other" at the condominiums.
Roberts said Gabriel does have a concealed pistol license.
If Gabriel is able to post bond, Nolan set a condition that he may not have any contact with the victim's family, and he's prohibited from the Balcom's Cove property.
Gabriel is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 16 for a preliminary examination.
