LANSING, Mich. — Two seats on the Michigan Supreme Court were up for grabs in this election and results show both Democratic-backed candidates as the winners.
Results show incumbent Justice Kyra Harris Bolden and Democratic nominee Kimberly Anne Thomas as the winners.
The win gives Democratic-backed Justices a 5-2 edge on the Michigan Supreme Court. Previously, the Democratic-backed Justices held a very slight 4-3 edge leading up to Election Day.
Justice Bolden was appointed to a vacancy by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2022 after running an unsuccessful campaign for a seat on the court.
Thomas is a law professor at the University of Michigan Law School.
