Former President Trump, newly announced running mate hosting Grand Rapids rally this weekend

Former President Trump, who is now officially the Republican presidential nominee, will visit West Michigan a week after a failed assassination attempt.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Former President Donald Trump is returning to the campaign trail in West Michigan.

Saturday's rally in Grand Rapids will be his first with his newly announced running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

Days ago, Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. Just days later, delegates at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee officially gave Trump the nomination.

On Monday, Trump also announced his running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance.

His visit to Grand Rapids Saturday evening marks his return to the campaign trail following the attempted assassination.

During Saturday's political event, the former president is expected to touch on the economy, border policies and taxes.

The rally is scheduled for Saturday, July 20 at Van Andel Arena, and will almost assuredly have tightened security in the wake of the assassination attempt.

The general public can register up to two tickets to attend. Doors are scheduled to open at 1 p.m., with remarks slated to begin at 5 p.m.

Trump was last in Grand Rapids in April where he invited area law enforcement to shed light on President Joe Biden's border policies, in what he called at the time "Biden's border bloodbath."

Vice President Kamala Harris announced a campaign stop in Kalamazoo on Wednesday where she'll give remarks in a conversation about national security and reproductive rights.

Michigan is considered a battleground state in the race for the White House in November.
