LANSING, Mich — Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss is set to step into a statewide role as she completes the final few months of her term as mayor.

Last week, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Bliss to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Executive Committee.

Bliss, who was elected as Grand Rapids' first woman mayor in 2016, will be succeeding Dr. Beverly Walker-Griffea who recently resigned from the committee.

The MEDC Executive Committee is tasked with providing policy direction and guidance to the MEDC as well as approving the corporate budget and overseeing aspects of the organization.

Bliss recently delivered her last State of the City Address in May, highlighting the reinvigoration of several shopping districts and communities in the city.

Bliss was appointed by Whitmer to begin representing public entities on June 28 and will join over a dozen others on the committee until her appointed term expires on April 5, 2027.

The MEDC helped create the award-winning "You Can in Michigan" national marketing campaign, continually provides grants for local community projects and creates programs to inspire innovation and connect businesses with resources and employees.
