LANSING, Mich. — We are less than a month away from election day. As voters get ready to head to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 or cast an early ballot, they've also seen election information everywhere.

Whether it's political texts, tv commercials or billboards it's everywhere. And some of it may not always be true.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel launched the a new webpage in hopes of helping voters discern between what's true and what's false.

The webpage is meant to combat election misinformation and intends to help voters recognize artificial intelligence (AI) and also access information about elections online.

AI has become more and more prevalent as it's become more advanced. People can use AI software like ChatGPT to write papers for them, or use photo editing software to alter an image to be something almost completely different.

Just this year, Nessel worked alongside her partners on the nationwide Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force to issue a warning to a company that was accused of sending scam election robocalls to New Hampshire residents during the state's primary election.

The calls allegedly used AI to impersonate President Joe Biden and discouraged voters from casting their votes in the primary election.

Nessel's new election misinformation webpage provides tips for voters on how they can spot AI-generated content, access reliable election resources and protect their votes.

“While technology has made it easier than ever to access election information, the rise of AI has also made it easier for misinformation on these topics to spread,” Nessel said. “To help protect voters from misinformation, this comprehensive guide is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure everyone can confidently navigate the digital landscape and stay informed with the facts they need to make their voices heard this election.”
