LANSING, Mich — Michiganders will head to the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 6 to cast their ballot in either the Democratic or Republican primary election.

In the Democratic primary, two U.S. Senate candidates are vying to represent their party on the ballot in November's general election.

Elissa Slotkin and Hill Harper will appear on the ballot as candidates for the U.S. Senate race.

The winner of the primary will be the Democratic Party's candidate for Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat in the November general election. The winning candidate will face off against their Republican opponent, as well as any other third-party challengers.

The newly open U.S. Senate seat will be vacated by long-time Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow, who was first elected in 2000, defeating then-incumbent Republican Spencer Abraham.

On Jan. 5, 2023, Stabenow announced that she would not be running for another term.
