JAMESTOWN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. — In a major victory for Jamestown Charter Township's Patmos Library, a millage proposal to continue funding the library was approved by voters Tuesday night.
The unofficial final vote showed 62.8% of voters approving the millage, with 2,528 votes cast.
The millage costs residents $0.41 per $1,000 in taxable property value for three years to fund the library through 2025.
This third attempt at a millage proposal to fund the library was a near-reversal from the first attempt in August of last year, when residents voted 62.5% to 37.5% to reject a millage.
Residents initially voted to deny passage of a millage last year after drawing issue with certain books offered by the library that centered around LGBTQ themes.
It's a saga that gained national attention following the library's initial defunding, even garnering the library a $50,000 donation from author Nora Roberts to keep it open.
