OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — Following months of litigation and hours of closed-door discussions with legal counsel earlier this week, Ottawa County is allegedly preparing to offer Health Officer Adeline Hambley millions if she agrees to leave the post.
A source familiar with the matter told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that $4 million was what was considered as a settlement in exchange for Hambley's resignation.
Commissioners were scheduled to vote on Monday whether to fire Hambley from the post over what's alleged was incompetence, misconduct and neglect of duty on her part during the county budget process. But after about 8 hours of closed session to discuss Hambley's litigation with legal counsel, they opted not to take a vote and, instead, delaying it for a third time.
The one vote commissioners did make on Monday, however, was to accept counsel's recommendation on the litigation "settlement activities."
The source also confirmed that severance pay for a departure from Deputy Health Officer Marcia Mansaray was also part of the considered settlement.
A vote has not yet been taken to finalize a settlement. Hambley's attorney said on Monday, for the time being, Hambley remained the health officer.
The commission is expected to meet on the matter again on Nov. 14.
