LANSING, Mich — A new study that looked at November general elections dating back to 2014, shows that Michigan has among the highest voter turnout of any state or district.
The study, conducted by JeffBet, analyzed the voter turnout in every state for the November general elections from 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022 and compared the turnout to the eligible voting populations in the state.
Michigan ranked fourth overall for turnout, with an average of 63.3% of eligible voters casting a ballot during those general elections.
"Michigan's status as a critical battleground state in national elections drives voter engagement, with political campaigns and civic organizations pushing for higher participation," the study said about Michigan's participation rate.

The study found that West Virginia has the lowest voter turnout with an average of only 38.4% of the eligible population casting a ballot in the November general elections since 2014.
The study used data from the voting and registration tables from the U.S. Census Bureau population surveys from November 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022.
