West Michigan's U.S. Attorney Patrick Miles is stepping aside after nearly five years in that office. On Thursday, Jan. 5 Miles made the news public.
“I am extremely blessed and grateful for the opportunity to serve the public in this capacity over the past four and a half years,” he said.
Miles said he made President Obama and Attorney General Loretta Lynch aware of his resignation on Wednesday, Jan. 4. Lynch thanked him for his service.
“Since 2012, Patrick A. Miles, Jr. has served the Western District of Michigan -- and the American people -- with distinction and honor," she said.
Miles became a U.S. Attorney in July of 2012 after 21 years of private law practice in Grand Rapids. His last day will be January 20th.
