MICHIGAN, USA — Starting on Friday, Aug. 23, you can officially request an absentee ballot for the general election on Nov. 5.
You can request an absentee ballot online, by mail, by phone or in person at your local city or township clerk's office.
Requests for absentee ballots should be made within two weeks of election day to avoid possible postal delays.
The Michigan Voter Information Center recommends making your request for an absentee ballot in person at your local city or township clerk's office. While you're there, you'll be able to fill out and submit your ballot.
Online
Registered voters can request an absentee ballot online through an absentee voter request form at this link.
By Mail
Registered voters can download an absentee voter request form at this link, fill it out and mail it to their local city or township clerk.
The form can also be turned in to their local city or township clerk in person.
By Phone
Registered voters can call their city or township clerk and ask for an absentee voter request form to be mailed to them.
In Person
Registered voters can go to their local city or township clerk's office and ask to fill out an absentee voter request form in person.
The Deadline To Request A Ballot
All absentee ballot request forms must be completed before 5 p.m. on Nov. 1, the Friday before the election.
If you're already registered at your current address, you can request an absent voter ballot in person at your clerk's office any time until 4 p.m. on Nov. 4, the day before the election.
If you're registering to vote or updating your address by showing up to your clerk's office on the day of the election, you can request an absent voter ballot at the same time you register.
If you request your absentee ballot the day before the election or on the day of the election, you must vote the ballot in the clerk's office.
The Deadline To Submit A Ballot
Your completed absentee ballot needs to be received by your city or township clerk by 8 p.m. on Nov. 5, the day of the election.
You can submit your absentee ballot by mail or by hand-delivering the ballot to your clerk's office or their secure drop box.
If you're returning your ballot within two weeks of Election Day, it's recommended to hand-deliver your ballot to avoid possible postal delays.
