GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Whether you’re a reptile enthusiast or simply have a curiosity about these fascinating creatures, you’re invited to experience one of the largest events of its kind in the state.
Reptile Weekend will return to Binder Park Zoo on Saturday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 4. It’s where visitors can see over 100 “guest” turtles, geckos, snakes, invertebrates and many others.
This popular event offers a unique opportunity to see critter encounters and hear presentations about these often misunderstood classes of animals. Knowledgeable reptile keepers will share facts, characteristics and habits of creatures that many people perceive as mysterious and elusive.
Special guest vendors this year include Sassquash Exotic Pets, Suzy's Nature Studies, Handmade Herps, Pangea Reptile, Muxlow Exotics, Josh's Frogs, A'lotl Bit Crazy Axolotls, SRK Reptiles, Preuss Pets, Savings Scales Reptile Rescue of Michigan and the Michigan State Herpetology Club.
Kalamazoo Nature Center will also be on hand to share bio-facts and information about native reptiles and ecosystems.
Reptile Weekend is a two-day event geared toward guests of all ages with the goal of dispelling the myths and fears that people often have about snakes, salamanders, frogs and others, to be replaced with respect and understanding of animals species that play important roles in the environment.
Reptile Weekend is a fun, family-oriented event at Binder Park Zoo that is included in the general admission price. Adults - $14.25, Senior citizens - $13.25, Children (ages 2 – 10) - $12.25, Children under age 2 are admitted free. Parking is free.
Reptile Weekend takes place Saturday, August 3 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 4 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Binder Park Zoo, 7400 Division Drive, Battle Creek.
Also returning is the Tour de Zoo at Binder Park Zoo. The “bikes, beasts and beers kinda FUNdraiser that happens on Thursday, Aug. 8 from 6 p.m. through 9 p.m.
It’s where you can ride your bike through the zoo with stops at hydration stations along the route and a party at the pavilions after, with live music, raffles, beer, food and general merriment!
,The event is family friendly and wacky costumes and bike décor are encouraged but not required. Guest can register to ride at binderparkzoo.org and get a cool t-shirt and your first beer free. Sponsored by New Belgium Brewing and Atlas Sales.
