Rockford High School Freshman Center declares COVID outbreak

Many other schools in West Michigan are also dealing with outbreaks as the new school year gets back into swing.

On Monday, the Kent County Health Department declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Rockford High School Freshman Center

In response, the principal said unvaccinated, close contacts will be required to quarantine for 10 days or until the outbreak is lifted. 

An outbreak is defined as two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases among students or staff within a 14-day period who are epidemiological linked, who do not share a house and are not identified as close contacts of each other. 

According to new Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data, Kent County reported new COVID outbreaks at Cedar Springs High School, Burton Elementary and South Christian High School. 

In Kalamazoo County, Gull Lake High School, Heritage Christian Academy and Milwood Elementary all reported new outbreaks this week. 

Wayland High School in Allegan County also reported a new COVID outbreak among students.
