We started the week off with true spring, or even summer-like temperatures. It reached the mid-70's in areas of West Michigan, but that doesn't look to be lasting for long.
A strong area of low pressure will bring rain, wind and eventually some snow to West Michigan starting late Wednesday.
Precipitation will likely start as light rain on Wednesday. Eventually, cooler air will allow the rain to transition over to snow. Areas along and north of I-96 have the best chance of seeing some slushy accumulations by Thursday morning with some seeing as much as 1-3 inches. To put this into perspective, Grand Rapids averages 2.4" of snow for the entire month of April.
The center of the storm should stay just to our west. However, the storm will be close enough to West Michigan to produce very strong winds. Wind gusts by late Thursday and Friday will exceed 40 miles per hour at times.
The cold front marches through West Michigan late Thursday. It will be the focus for a line of thunderstorms. A few of the stronger storms could contain gusty winds and even some hail.
Cooler air will follow the cold front. Highs this weekend will hover in the 40s.
