MUSKEGON, Mich. — There is temporary relief in the works to help high water level at Veterans Memorial Park in Muskegon.
A federal grant paid for fish and wildlife habitat improvements at the park. That money also paid to remove a dam and pump that regulated the water level on the park's south pond.
Some of the grant work still needs to be finished, including final grading, seeding and vegetative maintenance at the park.
To do that work, an aqua dam was set into place and water is temporarily being lowered by a mobile pump.
The final work at the park will continue all summer.
Water levels at the park follow water levels on Lake Michigan, which are at near record levels.
