CROCKERY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Grand Haven Tribune) - One person was taken to the hospital following a three-car crash Wednesday morning at the M-231/M-104 intersection in Crockery Township.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at 7:45 a.m. Dec. 5.
“It was chaos,” said Ottawa County Sgt. Brian Buter of the rush hour crash.
Buter said that the preliminary investigation showed that a man driving a Chevrolet HHR was westbound on M-104 and turned south onto M-231 into the path of an eastbound Trailblazer. The two vehicles then pushed into a Rendezvous that was stopped at the intersection, waiting to turn.
The man in the HHR was the only person injured, but it was not serious, Buter said. The man was taken by North Ottawa Community ambulance to a hospital as a precautionary measure.
Traffic was stalled longer in the eastbound lanes as the vehicles were cleared from the roadway.
The highway was completely open just before 8:30 a.m.
Buter said there had already been at least three other multiple-car crashes around the county prior to this one: They were in Allendale, Jamestown and Holland townships. None of the crashes involved serious injury, he said.
At least 15 crashes were reported around the county before 8:30 a.m.
Buter said he was leaving a crash on Lincoln Street in Robinson Township when he witnessed a near head-on crash at Lincoln and 128th Avenue.
The driver failed to stop at the intersection and was ticketed for careless driving, Buter said. The man claimed he could not stop due to the slippery conditions.
Buter emphasized that drivers need to slow down in snowy conditions and that many roads were extremely slippery.
