Fatal crash temporarily shut down US-31 north of Holland

Authorities in Ottawa County are investigating a fatal crash that happened Wednesday morning.

OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A portion of US-31 was shut down for several hours following a fatal crash.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is investigating after two cars and a semi-truck collided around 7:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes US-31 at Port Sheldon Street in Olive Township, north of Holland.

Preliminary investigation and witness statements to police paint a picture that the woman driving the semi failed to stop at a red light. The semi hit two vehicles, a Jeep and a minivan, that may have been slowing or stopped at the light, police say. Witnesses driving west on Port Sheldon Street told police they had the green light and were nearly struck by the semi and vehicles after impact.
