Shawn Watkins, 10, has the face of pure happiness.
"I never expected this to happen to me," Shawn said.
It was a surprise, well worth the long wait.
"It's what every parent would want—I feel like—to surprise their kid and make them that happy is the goal," Shawn's mom Alexandra Watkins said.
There it was: wrapped under the Christmas tree.
"I was expecting it to be a movie," Shawn said.
It wasn't a movie, it was Ariana Grande's newest CD, with a note taped to the back of the cover.
"To our son Shawn, we love you so so so much, love mom and dad," the note read. When Shawn unfolded the note he found a receipt for concert tickets to see Grande in Detroit. When he realized what it was, Shawn burst into tears.
"That's why I was really surprised and I was like really happy at the same time and I just started bawling my eyes out," Shawn said.
Excited is an understatement.
"I can't believe I was going to see her in person, like not on television, in person, which is crazy," Shawn said.
Music is basically ingrained into this 10-year-old's DNA.
"He was singing Adele when he was two, eyes were closed and he was so into it," Watkins said.
His aunt posted the video on Twitter and it went viral. To date, it has nearly 8,000 retweets and more than 55,000 likes.
"The comments people left about him being pure, and genuinely so happy. Some people we know said 'Wow I wish I could be that excited about anything in life. That's pretty amazing,'" Watkins said.
His goal, now, is to hopefully get Grande to see the video.
"I feel like this one tops all Christmases," Shawn said.
"It's just proof, dreams can come true," Watkins said.
