GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On Monday, April 8, Michiganders will have the opportunity to see a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse. The Grand Rapids Public Library (GRPL) is helping make viewing that eclipse possible for everyone.

Starting March 25 through the day of the eclipse, the library is inviting the public to stop by any GRPL location to pick up a free pair of solar eclipse glasses. They're limiting one pair of glasses per visitor, so if you'd like to grab some for friends and family they'll need to tag along to pick them up.

GRPL is also holding a few events the week leading up to the eclipse.

On Wednesday, April 3, they will host Solar Eclipse Fun with Air Zoo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will be held at the Main Library located at 111 Library St. NE. In partnership with Air Zoo. The library says the family-friendly event is all about space. There will be interactive presentations as well as the Air Zoo's portable STARLAB planetarium for viewing. If you attend the event you are also able to grab your eclipse glasses while there. The event is designed for all ages.

Just two days before the eclipse the Main Library will host another event called "When Day Turns to Dusk: A Solar Eclipse Seminar with Dr. Douglas Furton." The seminar will be led by GVSU Professor of Physics, Douglas Furton. He will explain how you can best prepare for the eclipse, view it safely and even how to get the best photos you can.

Both events are free and open to the public. You can visit www.grpl.org for more information or call 616.988.5400.
