BARRY COUNTY, Mich. — The Delton Kellogg School District announced Friday they'll be having a half-day on Monday due to the eclipse.
The half-day was not planned prior to Friday.
The school apologized for the inconvenience, but said they made the decision out of a concern for safety.
"Our number one priority is student safety," read the school's statement. "Therefore we made the decision to NOT have our buses running their PM routes during the peak of the eclipse."
The statement explained the school was concerned about distracted drivers on the road and students exiting the bus safely since the peak of the eclipse is set to be around 3:11 p.m.
"Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority and we will always err on the side of caution," the school said.
They said the day will follow the school's regular half-day schedule. Monday will also be the district's first day back from spring break.
