COLUMBUS, Ohio — When Muskegon High School football legend Cameron Martinez signed to play college football at Ohio State, he never envisioned leaving Columbus.
However, four years later, that journey took him down a path he did not see coming.
"I really never expected myself to end up in Boston, honestly," Martinez said. "Here I am."
Back in November, the two-time Michigan Mr. Football winner announced he would take his talents to Boston College as a grad-transfer.
"I felt it was best for a reset for myself and for my family just to take my opportunities somewhere else," Martinez said.
He initially chose Boston College because his old Buckeyes coordinator Jeff Hafley was the head coach, but he left for the Green Bay Packers and now Bill O'Brien is in charge. Martinez is still fired up for a new beginning.
"The situation and the plan they had in place for me, I felt like it was a no-brainer and the opportunity of a lifetime," Martinez said.
That opportunity sounds pretty sweet.
"They want me to play free safety pretty much being the quarterback of the defense," Martinez said. "Just have to bring that leadership and bring that playmaking ability as well."
Martinez plans to do more than just make plays, but make a difference out east.
"Just show them how much I want to win and how much I am willing to contribute doing whatever I can for the team," Martinez said.
Martinez actually pulled up to Boston College this past week and is ready to start rolling in Beantown with two years of eligibility remaining.
