BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State football team is headed back to the Division 2 national championship game after a 48-38 win over Slippery Rock. The Bulldogs trailed by eleven points at halftime but outscored The Rock, 21-0 in the second half.
Slippery Rock jumped out to an early 21-7 lead after the Bulldogs fumbled the football twice in the opening quarter. The lone touchdown came courtesy of a Justin Payoute pick-sick.
E'mari O'Brien had a touchdown catch and Trinidad Chambliss ran for a score but Ferris still found itself trailing 38-27 at halftime.
The Bulldogs defense forced four turnovers on the night, including two in the redzone in the second half. Chambliss scored two more rushing touchdowns and a Kannon Katzer 69-yard touchdown run gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game in the 4th quarter. That score would go down as the game winning touchdown.
Ferris State will look to win its third title in the last four seasons on Saturday, December 21st at 2 p.m. The game will once again be played in McKinney, Texas and will air on ESPN2.
