WYOMING, MI — Godwin Heights overcame a slow start to rally and beat Kelloggsville, 23-14.
Jaevion Willis took the handoff on the Rockets first offensive play of the game and ran 77-yards inside the Wolverines 10-yard line. On the next snap Chris Nesbitt found the endzone and the a two-point conversion put the Rockets up 8-0.
That was the score in the second quarter when Kelloggsville tried to punt from their own 7-yard line but the snap was low and Cyrie Thomas couldn't field it cleanly, ultimately resulting in a safety.
Godwin Heights took the lead with 3:25 left in the first half when Wolverines quarterback Ze'Veon Amontrell-McDonald threw a jumpball to tight end Marshawn Kneeland and the senior tapped his toes to get teo feet in and secure the touchdown catch. The extra point put the Wolverines up 9-8.
Godwin would have more success on offense in the second half, outscoring the Rockets 14-6 the rest of the way.
