Cougars head coach Todd Kolster is happy to be back

The Cougars are ready for a challenge in the first few weeks of the season

Varsity coach Todd Kolster won the state championship with Catholic Central in 2010, but moved to Jenison shortly after.

Now, Kolster is back at Catholic Central and has a different perspective than when he left.

"I've always said you don't get many second chances in life and this is a place that I've always felt very close to in my heart. So, to get this second chance, I jumped at it and obviously it's been great coming back."

Kolster says his decision to leave Catholic Central was based upon what he thought was best for his personal growth and for his family.

Now, the Cougars are looking at what's ahead... and the beginning of their season will be a challenge.

Their season opens up at East Grand Rapids on August 28th and then they have South Christian, Holland Christian, and Cedar Springs all in the first five weeks.

"We don't have a great deal of returning experience. We only have about four guys that have really played a lot of varsity football. Other than that, it's a lot of new faces. We're going to find out how good we are right away."

In order to be as good as they can?

Kolster says he encourages his athletes to give their best every day.

"Everything that we do is trying to put them in a pressure situation so that when they get put in the game on Friday nights they feel comfortable because of how we've prepared them in practice."

Catholic Central's first home game is on Saturday, September 6th against Andrean High School.
