Fremont girls basketball having historic season

Fremont is impressing with its 8-2 overall record. It is one of the best starts to a year in at least the last decade.

FREMONT, Mich. — The Fremont girls high school basketball team is on an absolute tear at the moment.

The Packers are currently on a five game winning streak, and are having one of the seasons in program history.

Fremont is impressing with its 8-2 overall record. It is one of the best starts to a year in at least the last decade.

We are all very close," Fremont senior Jessica Bennett said. "Even when we are not playing basketball, we are hanging out. We are all close friends and that definitely helps."

However, there is one thing the Packers are hoping to improve on and that's coming out of the gates fast.

If Fremont can do that, they believe the sky is the limit because they feel something special brewing.

"Our girls are unselfish," Fremont head coach Peter Zerfas said. "They do not care who leads us in scoring. Last three games, a different girl has led us in scoring. Just how hard they work has really led to our success. They really bring it for 32 minutes effort-wise. Full court, trapping, moving, pushing the ball, they really work hard."

Fremont plays on the road at Ludington on Tuesday night.
