WYOMING, Mich. — In the O-K Silver, the Godwin Heights High School boys basketball team is off to a dominant start in conference play.

The Wolverines are 6-1 in the conference with a 9-5 overall record.

The Wolverines feel like a big family this year, and its a testament to first year head coach Bernard Varnesdeel who is making an immediate impact.

"First and foremost, they are just unbelievable young men. I love coaching them," Varnesdeel said. "They are great young men. It's my first year. There a lot of new things - me, never being around them. They've adapted. It's a family. They break down as a family. They very much believe that."

"What makes this team special is everyone wants to be here for each other, not just themselves," Godwin Heights senior Jace Reid-Anderson said. "This is like a family. It's not one person for themselves, it's us, together."

Godwin Heights is in the middle of a five game homestand. The Wolverines host Comstock Park on Tuesday night.
