GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Week seven is in the books and that means there are only two weeks left for West Michigan's high school football teams to show they belong in the playoffs. With so much on the line, you need your playmakers to step up. We noticed three players that certainly accomplished that for their teams this past Friday.
Only one question remains: whose performance was good enough to be named 13 On Your Sidelines MVP of the Week? That's up for you, our viewers, to decide. Here are the nominees:
Eli Farrow - Byron Center safety
They say defense wins championships. Well, the Byron Center Bulldogs are still in the hunt for a conference championship in the OK Green, and their defense is a big reason for that. Senior Eli Farrow, in particular, impressed us on Friday night as he returned two interceptions for touchdowns against Forest Hills Northern. The Bulldogs beat the Huskies 51-24.
Gavin Craner - Whitehall running back
He's back on the nominations list for the second straight week. Whitehall running back Gavin Craner put on another amazing performance Friday as the Vikings beat Ludington 47-10. The game earned Whitehall first place in the West Michigan Conference's Lakes Division. Craner had 249 rushing yards on 20 carries, adding four touchdowns for the Vikes.
Beau Harris - Coopersville quarterback
We don't typically nominate players for MVP of the Week when their teams lose, but these stats are too impressive to ignore. Beau Harris threw for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns on Friday when the Broncos fell 43-41 to Kenowa Hills. Harris also broke Coopersville's single-season touchdown passing record with his 21st passing touchdown of the year.
You have until Wednesday at 6 p.m. to vote! We'll announce the winner on Friday night's episode of 13 On Your Sidelines.
