MUSKEGON, Mich. — Reeths Puffer High School senior Travis Ambrose had a difficult decision to make.
He has two passions - football and basketball. However, on Wednesday, he put pen to paper to play college football at the next level at Central Michigan.
The three-star recruit had a few offers to play at the next level in both sports, but Mount Pleasant was calling his name.
"Honestly, it was very different," Ambrose said. "Obviously, I had basketball and football so it was very hard for me. I did not know what I was going to do at first but Central really reached out and put an effort into it. It really meant a lot to me. That made it easy. Central Michigan it is."
However, at first, it was not easy. The stud on the Rockets basketball team received a few scholarships to GLIAC schools to continue his hoops career at the next level.
"It honestly tore me apart," Ambrose said. "I did not know what I was going to do. Central really made an effort and I started to fall in love with football because of my coaching staff at RP and all of the people who believed in me and supported in me in football. They supported me in basketball too, but football became the love of my life."
Love is the same word Ambrose would use to describe his four years in high school.
"I could have not asked for a better high school experience," Ambrose said. "Reeths Puffer has been the best place I could have gotten to. They made everything better. Supported me in every decision I made."
The six-foot seven-inch tight end will not enroll early. He has his eyes on a few basketball records at Reeths Puffer.
His head football coach Cody Kater also played college football for the Chippewas.
