EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This week's Meijer Scholar Athlete isn't just a member of a club at her school, she's the one who founded it.
Lucy Cavanaugh is a star senior on the East Grand Rapids lacrosse team. However, when she's not attacking defenses or killing it in the classroom with a 4.5 GPA, she running the "Pioneer Partners. " It's a program where she and her fellow high school classmates read books to elementary school children, and teach them lessons about growing up.
"Everyone is assigned different grades and classrooms," she explains. "We read to them for 30 minutes and ask them questions. It's super fun!"
The 17-year-old Cavanaugh is headed to Denison in Ohio where she'll continue her lacrosse career at the Division III level next fall.
