Saugatuck star Brook Simpson shines after transfer, ACL surgery

This year, the Trailblazers have some extra fire power.

SAUGATUCK, Mich. — The Saugatuck High School girls basketball team is off to a tremendous 11-1 start. It's their best season since the 2020-21 campaign when the Trailblazers finished with a 15-3 overall record.

This year, the Trailblazers have some extra fire power.

Saugatuck has that with senior star Brook Simpson, who transferred in from Belding High School. She missed her entire junior season with the Black Knights due to an ACL injury, but is now thriving in her new home.

She recently has hit the 1,000-point milestone. But more importantly, she is just glad to be playing basketball again.

"It's a really big accomplishment because I worked very hard to be able to play again," Simpson said. "I didn't know where I would be again with my knee. I only got half of my freshman year and I didn't get to play my junior year. It's a big milestone for me especially here. I'm glad I can celebrate with these people that really care so much. It's really special to me."

Moving schools during her senior year has been an easy adjustment for Simpson.

"She fits right in," Saugatuck head coach Kevin Tringali said. "This kid is so humble and so unassuming. I don't think the people in our community really understood the kind of player she is and she is an even better person, I truly mean that."

Simpson is still looking for a college home. She decommitted from Dayton and picked up an offer from Kent State over the weekend.
