GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — This week's Meijer Scholar Athlete is Mona Shores junior, Ava Freye. Freye is a star for the Mona Shore's soccer and basketball team, while maintaining a GPA over 4.0.
As just a junior, Freye is in her second season as a starter for the varsity soccer team. Last season she was named all-conference and all-district for the Sailors.
Freye is also a member of the Mona Shores girl's basketball team and the Hope Squad. Freye does this all with a GPA of 4.4 and she says she has learned to love the challenge of learning and getting better every day.
"I think it's a lot of appreciation for what you are learning," Freye said. Knowing that every sacrifice you make, if you can't hang out with friends, that's a decision that is bringing you closer to your goal and I think that's really powerful."
