NEWAYGO, Mich. — This week's Meijer Scholar Athlete is all-conference in a sport in the fall, winter and spring. Newyago's Josiah Long does it all while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
Long plays football, basketball and baseball for the Lions and is also in the National Honor society, youth advisory committee, student athlete leadership team and student council.
On top of it all, Long was diagnosed with type one diabetes in 8th grade and has learned to keep his blood sugar up.
Through it all, the Newaygo senior says the key is realizing there is more time in the day than people think. It's just about getting your priorities right and putting in the hard work.
"There's a lot you want to do, you want to have friends and hangout but you just have to prioritize what is important to you," said Long. "You have to break the day down and figure out what you really want to do and then you do have to set time aside and prioritize keeping your school work at the top of what you need to get done."
Long is still figuring out where he will go in the fall, but he plans to keep his baseball career going.
